Why you feel different after being in nature (it's not in your head)

Hey Reader,

Hope your summer is off to a good start.

It's been a minute since I've written, but I've been heads down on something I've wanted to make for years.

You know that feeling when you're out hiking, or standing somewhere in a national park, and your whole body just settles?
The stress drops. Your head goes quiet. You feel grounded again.

We've all felt it. But I got obsessed with a different question: what does the actual science say is happening?

Turns out it's real, and it's measurable. Within about 15 minutes in nature, your cortisol starts to drop. It shows up in blood tests and brain scans. And here's the part that surprised me most: you don't even have to be there to get a piece of it. Your nervous system responds to nature even through a screen.

That's the whole reason I built OutdoorBody. I'm always chasing that feeling, and I wanted to bring it to people wherever they are, whether they can get to a trailhead or not.

So I made this. A short documentary on what nature actually does to your brain, your stress, and your nervous system. It's the first in a new series. Just hit below, 9mins:

Mostly I just want people getting outside more. Especially right now, in a world this loud, I think we all need it more than we realize.

Give it a watch this weekend. I think you'll feel it.

Talk soon,
Tommy

P.S. Hitting the road this weekend to shoot more of these. Curious, where's your summer taking you?

Cardio. Sleep. Supplements. Stress. Too many targets. No traction. Getting in great shape doesn’t require more effort. It requires better order. Here are the big levers: 1. Get honest about where you’re at Not emotionally. Objectively. Bodyweight trend. Waist measurement. Monthly photos. Bloodwork...
